Term two Starter Project

Launch and the first day back we were all given a task to and present on Thursday.

The Project title is 'Eat your art out'

The task is to recreate an art or design classic but only using edible ingredients. We have to consider texture, flavour, presentation and colour. Then we will present in front of the the group and then consume together.

In groups of 4/5 that were made for us we have the Tree-trunk bench by Jurgen Bey.

A fallen tree can serve as a seat. The addition of bronze classical chair backs makes it a proper piece of furniture, a crossing between nature and culture. Jurgen Bey makes clear that it is ridiculous to transport trees when they are locally available. Therefore only the chair backs are for sale.

Our initial idea was to make part of the log breakfast/lunch/dinner and then it turned into starter/main/dessert.

This however wouldn't fit the brief as it wouldnt be the same colour.

In the end and after much discussion we decided to go with the concept of it looks functional but looks slightly uncomfortable.

So then going with our Chocolate swiss roll idea we decided to add boiled sweets in the icing for the top because it will look yummy to eat but actually is uncomfortable to chew.

As pictured below we experimented with how we could make the chairs. we tried:

- chocolate fingers
-matchstick chocolate
- Melted chocolate and shaped
- Tall shaped biscuits

These chairs above we decided that these were the best.

We then went shopping and found some icing pens. to give them an extra boost.

We added the remainder of the icing ontop of the chocolate to make it look more realistic.
